52 Degrees

Since today is national football day, aka Super Bowl XLIV, I decided that I would post photographs of the one and only NFL game I attended this season. We saw the New York Giants defeat the Oakland Raiders 44-7 in a contest that was all but over after the first quarter. The weather at the Meadowlands was a sunny and pleasant 52 degrees with a slight breeze. The energy of the Giants fans seemed to be lower than other games I had attended. I'm not sure if this was because of the opponent or because the only other games I had been to were division rivals of the Giants. Even though the Raiders were 1-3 coming into this game, they had many more fans at the game than I was expecting. Since this game was so lopsided many of the Giants starters didn't play the second half, and this game became very boring very quickly.

#10 Eli Manning sets up in the pocket as #99 Greg Ellis tries to fight off a block.

New York Giants wide receiver #12 Steve Smith fights with #57 Ricky Brown and #26 Stanford Routt to recover a fumble.

New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs is tackled by #33 Tyvon Branch and another Oakland Raider Defender after a long run.

Oakland Raiders quaterback, JaMarcus Russell, attempts a short pass as #96 Barry Cofeild just misses knocking the ball down.

A deep pass from Oakland Raider quarterback JaMarcus Russel intended for #18 Louis Murphy falls incomplete.

24 Degrees

The winter is here and spending time outdoors is usually not an option. The days when the sky is clear and the wind is light are few and far between. Today was one of those few days so I took this opportunity to go to Gantry State Park to take some photographs of midtown Manhattan. Gantry State Park is located on the banks of the East River in Long Island City, New York.

The park, which opened in 1998, was a former industrial space that was turned into a public park with amazing views of Manhattan. The gantry cranes are a reminder of this areas industrial past. In the background you can see new loft apartments, another sign of the change from an industrial zone to a residential area.
Directly across from one the the four piers in the park is the United Nations Headquarters. The large rectangular silver building is the Secretariat Building.

This photograph was taken from the northern most pier. This is a picture of the Upper East Side. On the right side of the picture you can see the 59Th Street Bridge. This bridge connects the boroughs of Queens and Manhattan.

Ten blocks south and several blocks west of the United Nations headquarters is one of the most recognizable landmarks in all of the world. This is a photograph of the Empire State Building and the surrounding buildings.

Even though New York is the most populous city in the country, nature is abundant. This photograph is an example of the wild flowers that flourish in NYC. Gantry State park has several areas of natural plant life and grassy areas for relaxation.

34 Degrees

For the Christmas holiday, my wife and I joined her family in Brant Lake, New York. For those of you unfamilair with the State of New York, New York City and Long Island are on the southerm end of the state and make up a small porpotion of the total land area. The majority of the state is to the north and the northwest of NYC. Our trip from Queens takes us four hours north to the town of Brant Lake. This part of New York is very much different than the noisy, busy and congested areas around NYC and the wilderness here reminds me of the small mountain towns in Colorado. It is quite, peaceful and beautiful.

This is a shot of the Shroon River.

This is another photograph of the Scroon River. Soon after this was taken, a gentil rain started to fall. It was one of the most peaceful places I have ever been.

A fallen tree gives a wonderful reflection in the Scroon River.

A Blue Jay was pearched outside the window of my wifes auntd house. These are very hyper birds and took me several dozen shots to get a good one.

This is the town of Brant Lake. It is several miles away from my wife's aunts house. The small brick building with the white roof is the old town library, built in 1902.

This is a photograph of some ice that formed on the dam of Brant Lake.

The trip upstate was a great getaway from the hustle and bustle of the the city. The views were breathtaking and the company was wonderful. Thank you to all of those that made this holiday so enjoyable.

Welcome to My Blog

Welcome and thank you for visiting my blog. Living in New York City, I have a abundance of opportunities to take unique photographs, meet interesting people and see interesting things. On a trip home from a night out on the town, my wife and I saw a man performing in the subway with a full size upright piano. We had no idea how he got the piano down to the subway platform, but he entertained us and few dozen other travelers until our train arrived. These are the story's that I want the world to know. If anybody has any ideas for photographs or wants to see anything in the NYC area let me know.
